| Our Approach |
Public policy is tough. By its very nature, there are often a variety of parties with divergent views and goals who all want to play a role in shaping the outcome. TAG Strategies (TAG) works with clients to first understand the challenges they face— including an assessment of the policy environment— and then to create a strategy and craft solutions that meet their needs. TAG assists clients in developing solutions in collaboration with diverse stakeholders, producing outcomes that are rapidly actionable
because those who might have opposed them played a substantive role in their development. Regardless of whether we are providing facilitation, directing a public engagement process, or delivering a leadership development program, our work is based on a few key principles: |
 |
| |
 |
Learning—our experience has proven that when people learn together, they are better able to work together and reach
agreements that can be mutually supportive. We work with experts so that our clients—and those our clients need to work with—
have access to high-quality information that can form the basis of good decisions. For example, we used the very latest data
available to produce the discussion guide for the Governor's Dialogue on Health Care Vision and Values. |
| |
 |
Relationships—we have learned that good relationships produce better outcomes. We actively work to help participants
understand, respect, and even like each other— regardless of whether they agree or disagree on the issues. |
| |
 |
Trust—good solutions are seldom developed in an atmosphere of distrust. We place an emphasis on helping to create a trust
environment and on being trustworthy ourselves. |
| |
| |
While not exactly a principle, we also believe that humor—a well timed joke or a relevant anecdote—can sometimes make
the difference between success and failure. We also take a solemn oath not to bore people. Our unofficial motto is that we
would not design a process that we would not want to participate in ourselves. |
